Southern railway emu theory
December 7:
7:05, 7:25, 7:40, 8:05, 8:15.
These are the train timings from chengalpattu to beach station in the morning. On that day, when i was in gate, rameswaram express by 7:20 crossed chengalpattu. I went to station, which was covered full of mist and there is no clear view to see the things, which is usual in the month of karthigai and margazhi. I witnessed no trains in the platform. Normally, 7:25 will leave from 5th platform and 7:40 from 4th platform. Thought 7:25 went in time after the express which is the routine. When a train came at 7:40, i realized from a co-fist class regular passenger that it was actually 7:25 train. After 5 mins, the train started. As expected, more crowds were witness in the stations and another passenger from vandalur informed that, the train was made local and the announcement was made by the vandalur station master. When the train reached tambaram, it happened. The train was made to run in tambaram-beach local line. Now the following are the assumptions for the reason:-
1. To steer clear of delayed arrival time in egmore for chennai bound express trains, undisturbed by semi-fast trains.
2. Some problem in the fast track, may be maintenance, which is very important for passenger safety.
3. To clear rush in the tambaram-chengalpattu station because of less frequency in the morning (though not logic, but we can think like that)
When our train crossed pallavaram, for everyone's surprise, 7:40 semi-fast over took us. When our train passed St.Thomas Mount, 8:15 tirumalpur-beach fast overtook us.
The entire passengers of 7:25 train were reached their destinations very late than the 7:40 & 8:15 emu passengers. And my friend whom i alerted about the delay was in office before i reached. My half-an-hour permission was extended to one hour permission. By sacrificing one 12 car train full of passengers from 9 stations in between chengalpattu and tambaram became scapegoats that day. Now below is my assumption of what southern railway thought of that day.
1. To keep the arrival times of 7:40 and 8:15 fast, sacrifice 7:25 time.
If they made a decision that 7:25 is going to run as local, then they should have decided that other trains will continue as semi-fast. Then why the local line announcement was made in vandalur and other upkeeping semi-fast trains are not announced in that station?
